FROM THE DESK OF THE WEBMASTER
'What
disease affects 40 million people worldwide, yet three quarters
are untreated? Paradoxically the same disease with early diagnosis and treatment can be controlled in three quarters of those affected. The disease is epilepsy, the commonest brain disorder in every country in the world' (Lancet, 1997). This aptly summarizes the magnitude of the problem both in terms of the illness and also in the terms of ignorance.
Unfortunately
and inspite of modern advances a large number of people are still in 'Dark Ages' by which I mean they are ignorant of the advances in the field of epilepsy. The message that epilepsy is treatable and the patients are otherwise normal to pursue their life goals is yet to reach the bulk of the population. Precisely for this reason Indian Epilepsy Association, a voluntary organization took its birth in 1970.
The
website is divided into useful sections like the central office

etc. We welcome comments and suggestions and we request all the
chapters to update their information to the webmaster.
